2017 PROFILE A GUIDE TO ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES 15 Committees Committee on the Environment (COTE) COTE's mission since its inception has been to PROMOTE the integration of design and sustainability, EXPAND participation and expertise, and CONNECT members of the design and building community. COTE works as the sustainability arm of AIA as a con- duit for communication and educating members and the public on sustainable design. Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) The EPC is commit ted to fur thering the professional development of emerging professionals through fellowship and suppor tive net working. The EPC provides sup- por t to licensure candidates par ticipating in the National Council of Architec tural Registration Boards' Architec tural Experience Program (EXP), while also engaging experienced architec ts who can provide exemplar y ser vice to the profession through mentorship and knowledge sharing. Fellows Committee The mission of the Fellows Committee is to support the objectives of the AIA through active participation in the various committees of the Portland chapter and through recog- nition of outstanding contributions by architects and members of our greater community. Tasks include nominating new fellows and selecting individuals for various awards. Committee membership is open to fellows of the American Institute of Architects. ForWARD | Portland ForWARD (Forum for Women in Architec ture and Related Design) provides a neutral, suppor tive environment for the diverse communit y of women involved in the built environment to net work across disciplines, to explore design-related interests to and mentor one another. Historic Resources Committee The Historic Resources Commit tee aspires to inform the chapter and the public at large on issues relating to historic preser vation and resources. Small Firm Roundtable The Small Firm Roundtable is an open forum for single prac titioners, principals and employees of small f irms to exchange information, ideas and resources. Monthly meetings may have guest speakers, roundtable discussions or f ield trips focused on a topic of interest. The AIA KnowledgeNet includes the related Small Firm Exchange. Urban Design Panel A collaborative initiative of the American Institute of Architec ts (AIA), the American Planning Association (APA) and the American Societ y of Landscape Architec ts (ASLA), the Urban Design Panel provides a multidisciplinar y team of professionals who review both projec ts submit ted to the cit y of Por tland design review and local poli- cies related to Por tland's built environment. The Urban Design Panel is open to mem- bers of these three professional organizations only and provides a combined focused voice per taining to the issues and conditions that shape our built environment. The Executive Commit tee is comprised of t wo members from each professional organiza- tion that provides a direc t link to their individual board of direc tors. Premier Design Program Initiatives Portland Architec ture Awards The Por tland Architec ture Awards is an annual celebration of architec ture and design competition open to all AIA Por tland member f irms, members and associate mem- bers, with the balance of the design communit y and general public in at tendance. A nationally recognized jur y of professionals reviews and selec ts submit ted projec ts for awards that ref lec t the best architec ture our f irms have to of fer. AIA Portland Homes Tour The Homes Tour is an annual event that is open for projec t selec tion to AIA Por tland members, with at tendance by the general public. The tour showcases f ive to seven homes designed by architec ts that exemplif y design excellence. Tours of ten focus on a specif ic theme from year to year. Visit us online at www.aiaportland.org.
