90 THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS PORTLAND CHAPTER Firm Profiles Peter Meijer Architect, PC 503-517-0283 • www.pmapdx.com 605 NE 21st Ave, Ste 200, Portland 97232 Rehabilitation of existing buildings is about "thoughtful change," a design philosophy based on research, experience and initiative as a means to achieve design quality. Peter Meijer Architect, PC (PMA) embraces thoughtful change as a fundamental component of our design, science and preservation planning services. Research sets the foundation of understanding the original design intent from programming, site orientation and material selection to design style and context. The diverse experience of our exceptional staff; our proven expertise of myriad older buildings, historic construc- tion means and methods; and our familiarity with architectural styles and eras ensures that PMA seamlessly integrates our new work with the existing structure. At times, a new design is required as a distinct solution, while at other times, a more deferential approach is required. PMA has initiated several policies, procedures and internal programs to support our philosophy of thoughtful change. We are committed to quality and improvement of the design process for both the owner and for the future users of the building.
